Held over three to four days, it’s a chance to reconnect with each other, engage with regional stakeholders and reflect on their growth so far.
But this year it’s a bit different: for the first time, Mid-Year Intensives are happening across Australia, in five states and territories. The programs are tailored to each state and territory, and Associates will have the chance to grow closer to fellow teachers and leaders in their region.
Through workshops, lectures, guest speakers and panel discussions, Associates continue to develop the fundamental techniques of teaching practice and leadership, while also honing their management of personal well-being and culturally inclusive classrooms.
Themes include how to prepare purposefully and how to engage students in the classroom as well as stakeholders in the region. Associates will participate in conversations about curriculum innovation, reading level differentiation, self-care and school leadership, to name a small handful of topics.
Associates also have the opportunity to reconnect with Deakin University staff to progress their academic studies.
The Mid-Year Intensives are taking place in:
This year as well, all Associates are invited to a celebratory evening held at each location. Following the airing of the SBS documentary series, Testing Teachers, we’re excited reconnect as a community to recognise the challenges that lay ahead while also acknowledging the achievements, passion, effort and resilience of our Associates, Alumni and staff in tackling educational disadvantage.
We hope that our Associates have both a productive and fun time at Mid-Year Intensives this year – see you there!
