Teach For Australia (TFA) is today delighted to have received funding to recruit, train and place 155 high-quality teachers (known as Associates) throughout Victoria over two cohorts, from the Andrews Labor Government.
This additional funding allows TFA to bring more high-quality graduates and professionals to teach in schools serving low socioeconomic communities, while achieving a Master’s Degree in Teaching (Secondary) (Professional Practice) with ACU.
For a decade Teach For Australia has played a role in recruiting and placing high achieving graduates into Australian schools in low socioeconomic communities, many of which are located in regional and rural areas.
Melodie Potts Rosevear, Chief Executive Officer of Teach For Australia, welcomes the continued support of the Victorian Government.
“We are excited to continue our long-standing, 10-year relationship with the Victorian Government, to help bridge the divide between regional and metropolitan schools,” Ms Potts Rosevear said.
“The TFA model has proven itself as an important pathway for attracting the best and brightest to the classroom. We offer an established pipeline for attracting high achievers into the teaching profession in regional, rural and remote schools and are looking forward to the delivery of expanded leadership outcomes stemming from the recent funding announcement.”
Victorian Education Minister James Merlino believes that to help improve the quality of teaching and learning in Victoria, the state must attract and support the best people to become teachers.
“Great teachers change lives. That’s why we’re working so hard to attract the best people to teaching and supporting them to stay in our classrooms,” Mr Merlino said.
Northern Bay Secondary College Principal Fred Clarke considers the quality of the Teach For Australia Associates crucial to the continual growth at his school.
“What we like most about the program is the unique opportunity it provides us to recruit high caliber, quality teachers who each have a strong social conscience and who we generally retain on the completion of the program to take on significant curriculum leadership roles within our college,” Mr Clarke said.
To date, TFA has placed 478 Associates (teachers) in schools across Victoria with 47 per cent of these being placed in regional, rural or remote areas and 43 per cent being able to teach STEM subjects.
