April 30 2020 marked the launch of Teach To Lead’s brand new pilot The Collective, where 15 middle leaders from Greater Shepparton Secondary College came together for their first intensive – virtual style!
Taking on a very different kind of Term 2 – working remotely, in a new school and in a position of middle leadership, the Teach To Lead team was amazed by the group’s resilience and passion, and their ability to keep doing their important work in such challenging times.
“Kicking off The Collective online today was invigorating, illuminating and gives me a great sense of optimism for the work we can all do together. There’s a lot of opportunity amongst the complexity there, and strong leadership is desperately needed for the students in the community to thrive – the will was certainly evident to make this happen today!” Georgie Swan, Head of Teach To Lead, said.
Fellows started their journey with sessions around building trust, delving deeper into their school’s vision and future direction and developing strategies for giving and receiving feedback.
“From the get go, today’s Teach To Lead training allayed any worries I had about the program being delivered remotely. There were plenty of opportunities for small, medium, and large group chats, the content was engaging and our facilitators delivered with knowledge and confidence,” Fellow Tarsh Boyko said.
Teach To Lead’s The Collective will run for the rest of the school year and aims to support the Fellows in building their leadership capacity through an evidence based Impact Initiative, relevant to their school’s priorities and driving student outcomes.
