This year, 54 Associates were placed in Victoria across 34 schools in metropolitan and regional regions. To date, 411 Associates have been placed across Victoria.
The variety of different locations and placement areas across Victoria means that there is truly something for everyone – from the world’s most liveable city to Victoria’s fastest growing town; from the tourist hotspots of the Great Ocean Road to the wine regions of North-Eastern Victoria; and from the beautiful Grampians mountain ranges to the rolling hills of Gippsland.
This year, 27 Associates were placed to teach in metropolitan Melbourne. Our impact in the region since 2010 has seen increased VCE results, rising tertiary transition and the implementation of wellbeing programs.
Associates love the fantastic nightlife, restaurants and national sporting events Melbourne has to offer – there’s always something to see and do. Many leverage the close proximity to the city to engage their students in excursions, work experience and tertiary experiences.
The Melbourne metropolitan area is inclusive of our partner schools in suburbs such as Melton, Emerald, or Dromana.
27 Associates were placed to teach at regional schools in Victoria this year. Teach For Australia works in an increasing number of regional and remote communities with major clusters in Horsham, Shepparton, Gippsland and along the South West Coast. Most placements are within a few hours of Melbourne, making it relatively easy for people to visit the city or come home to see their family and friends regularly.
We try where possible to partner with schools within an hour drive of one another, which means many Associates are able to live and study together. This has created a buzzing Associate and Alumni community in Victoria.
In regional settings, integrating into the community is a significant and important part of the experience. Our Associates often get involved in local sporting clubs, the volunteer fire brigade and community groups, enjoying the friendly spirit of their regional towns and cities.
