Today was Teach For Australia’s first ever Giving Day and – WOW! – we are overwhelmed with the generosity and support from more than 260 individual donors who, like us, care deeply about addressing educational disadvantage.
When we launched this initiative to coincide with World Teacher’s Day, we set out with a goal of achieving $100,000 in total donations within just 12 hours – from 8am to 8pm.
We had planned and prepared, but weren’t sure exactly what to expect. We certainly didn’t think we would hit our target just a few hours in and we didn’t dream we would go to not one, but two bonus rounds!
As of 8pm tonight, the tally stands at an incredible $200,676 and the TFA Giving Day Charidy page will remain open over the weekend as we know a few pledges are still on their way.
Today has been an amazing success and we are beyond grateful to the many individuals, families, organisations and businesses who stepped up and showed their support for TFA today.
We also could not have achieved today’s fantastic result without a special partnership with the Atlassian Foundation, who multiplied every donation x4 until we hit the $100,000 mark, and then continued the generosity by doubling every donation there after until we hit $150,000.
We look forward to continuing our work with Atlassian Foundation, knowing we share common visions for creating a better world for our children and young people.
We must also give another very special thanks to Jane Hansen and Paul Little who made a wonderful donation that took us beyond $150,000 and also pledged to match dollar for dollar any additional donations in the “double bonus round” in the final hours up to 8pm tonight.
Jane and Paul are hoping, through their philanthropy, to create a legacy of significant and positive change that inspires and enables Australians. That’s an objective which resonates so strongly with TFA.
Our vision is an Australia where education gives every child greater choice for their future, and we are working towards that by training and developing amazing teachers who serve our most deserving students and communities.
My heartfelt thanks goes out to each and every person who supported us today.
Great teachers and school leaders can make all the difference in the lives of our young people, and your contribution today will directly support this important work.
