01 About the program
At Teach For Australia, our mission is to fight educational inequity by recruiting and developing people like you to teach across Australia.
Our program participants work exclusively in schools serving low-socioeconomic communities, working in the regions that need the most support.
Through our Undergraduate Teaching Program, you’ll study your Bachelor of Education Secondary through Charles Darwin University while earning an income working in the classroom (starting in an education support role before moving into a teaching position whilst completing your studies), supported by 1:1 coaching and mentoring.
02 Eligibility criteria
To be eligible for the Undergraduate Teaching Program, you must:
- Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
- Be employed by a TFA eligible school in an education support role
- Have completed Year 12 or equivalent*

This program is for those that are already connected to a school community. It is for those that have been thinking about becoming a teacher but aren’t able to sacrifice your income whilst studying. This program is for those who are passionate about making a difference for young people and creating equity across the face of Australian education.

07 Program structure
Your studies
To support you while you study, you’ll receive academic support, peer learning opportunities, coaching and mentoring support, and virtual and in-person opportunities to further extend your learning.
Your employment
You’ll be employed at your placement school as Education Support Staff/Teachers’ Aide for the first two years of the program, before progressing to teaching in the final two years.
08 Financial support
In eligible jurisdictions, you will receive a scholarship of $30,000 to cover your ongoing expenses during the early years of the program. Candidates who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander will receive an additional scholarship of $30,000 to support them during the program.
09 FAQs
I haven’t attained Year 12 or equivalent. Am I still eligible to apply?
Yes, you can still apply – if you join the program you will need to undertake some additional preparations, including a bridging course through Charles Darwin University. We will support you through this.
Charles Darwin University offers a free UniBoost Program delivered online or on campus as an alternative pathway into your degree if you haven’t completed Year 12. In as little as 16 weeks, you will meet the requirements to commence your bachelor’s degree.

Will I be working in the classroom full-time?
You’ll be working up to 0.8FTE each week (equivalent to 4 days) and will be given 0.2 FTE time release to study
In the first two years of the program, you’ll be working as Education Support Staff/Teacher’s Aide before progressing to teaching in your third year.
I already have a bachelor’s degree in another field. Can I still apply?
Yes, you can still apply but you may wish to consider our postgraduate pathway, the Leadership Development Program.
