Baker Foundation Enabling Us to Grow Across Australia

Thursday, October 30th, 2025

Since 2014, Teach For Australia has been deeply grateful to the Baker Foundation for their unwavering commitment to educational equity. Their partnership and generosity have helped us expand into New South Wales, South Australia, Tasmania and Western Australia, enabling us to recruit and support high-calibre teachers in rural, regional and remote communities.

Expanding Our Work in New Jurisdictions

The Baker Foundation’s most recent partnership has been instrumental in supporting TFA’s entry into new jurisdictions.

For example, the Foundation’s support for NSW in 2023-2025 saw 10 teachers commence in schools in Delany College, Emmaus Catholic College, Holy Spirit Catholic College, James Sheahan Catholic High School, La Salle Academy, St Johns College and St Mary’s Catholic School including four outstanding teachers began their journey in Catholic schools across Dubbo, Orange, Kemps Creek and Lakemba. They received strong support through virtual coaching, school visits, professional learning and trauma-informed training.

‘I recognise that change within the education system must be enacted at the source. I aim to gain insight into the challenges faced by these students and teachers and hopefully find ways to improve their experiences.’

‘I grew up in a regional town in Central West NSW and have witnessed first-hand the detrimental effects of educational inequality and the obstacles faced by students from disadvantaged backgrounds.’

Support to Create Ongoing Impact

Baker Foundation funding in 2025 has been directed to expand our Leadership Development Program in South Australia and preparatory work looking at possible expansion of TFA’s programs into Queensland — ensuring every dollar continues to create meaningful impact where it’s needed most.

In South Australia, nine new teachers joined the 2025 LDP, placed across six new partnership schools and two returning schools. Four out of five 2023 graduates continue to teach in country SA, further strengthening local communities.

At the same time, the Baker Foundation’s support has allowed us to lay the groundwork for possible future impact in Queensland.

Our Deepest Thanks

We are proud of what this partnership continues to make possible — and excited for what lies ahead.

Thank you, Baker Foundation, for helping us expand our impact and bring more great teachers to schools across Australia.

Through our innovative employment-based pathway, teachers earn a salary while completing their Master of Secondary Teaching, building the confidence and capacity to lead lasting change in their classrooms and communities.
