How are we responding to COVID-19?

The spread of COVID-19 has unfortunately caused widespread professional disruption and uncertainty. You may have experienced redundancy at short-notice, increased job insecurity, graduating into an industry with limited hiring prospects, or are simply trying to work out the next steps within a disrupted industry. 

However, during previous times of economic uncertainty and downturn, teaching has remained a stable and reliable industry. The demand for passionate, talented educators remains consistent, as does the importance of quality education for each generation of Australian schoolchildren, no matter their postcode.  

Now more than ever, we are concerned for the students who attend TFA partner schools. Their communities are facing additional and increasing disadvantage that will prevent them accessing a quality education, widening the three-year educational gap that exists between children from the lowest and highest socioeconomic households. Importantly, school can often be a place not just of learning but of refuge; and there are many challenges ahead with student health and wellbeing in these times of stark isolation.  

That’s why Teach For Australia will always need new Associates to become teachers and leaders within low SES communities, helping provide a positive foundation of education and stability.

Are applications open for the 2020/21 intake?

Absolutely. The Teach For Australia team is continuing business-as-usual to recruit the next generation of inspiring leaders, however we’ve implemented some important changes to our processes. 

What changes have been made?

The safety of our staff and our applicants is, and will always be, our highest priority. That’s why our entire three-stage application process has evolved to be fully online, limiting any unnecessary in-person contact. We also want applicants to have all the usual information at their fingertips, meaning all face-to-face interviewsnational webinars, meet a TFA recruiter chats, Alumni Q&As and application workshops have been redesigned to take place through digital channels or over Zoom.
