Leadership Development Program

An impassioned plea to future teachers and leaders

Thursday, May 23rd, 2024

Teach For Australia’s Founder and CEO, Melodie Potts Rosevear OAM has called for those considering a career in teaching to jump aboard and help advance educational equity across Australia.

Amidst widespread teacher shortages, the organisation is helping to disrupt entry barriers and teacher turnover through a rigorous recruitment process, the provision of wrap-around support and an employment-based pathway.

In a powerful address, Ms Potts Rosevear highlighted the urgent need to recruit more teachers who believe that all children deserve to have a quality education.

“Teaching is an act of leadership and it’s also preparation for leadership,” Ms Potts Rosevear said.

“And our Alumni prove that. We now have Alumni teaching right across the nation, making that difference in the lives of young people.

“We see them growing into principals, going into policy, becoming members of parliament. All these things can be possible as a result of the Teach For Australia journey.”

The organisation’s mission is to grow a community of leaders committed to equity for children, by recruiting and developing exceptional people committed to education equity to teach and lead across Australia.

Through its flagship, Leadership Development Program, TFA recruits and supports high-calibre individuals to become teachers and leaders through an employment-based pathway from other careers or degrees.

The new teachers are placed into schools experiencing disadvantage, including those in remote, rural and regional areas.

Potts Rosevear urged all those on the cusp of applying for the Leadership Development Program to consider the tremendous impact they could make with Teach For Australia right from day one.

“If you want to challenge education and help make Australia a fairer place, and if you want to challenge yourself to see what growth lies within you, then I encourage you to submit your application.

“Every child deserves an education that gives them choice for their future.”

In its 15th year, TFA’s LDP, which offers a two-year postgraduate employment teaching pathway, has attracted 1600 high calibre individuals to teaching, positively impacting over half a million students since 2010.
