Teach For Australia (TFA) is delighted to welcome today’s announcement from Western Australia’s Education Minister, the Hon. Sue Ellery MP, of a new $4.006 million funding agreement.

The Western Australia (WA) Government grant will support TFA to recruit and train up to 280 new teachers in WA public schools by 2024, in four additional cohorts of TFA’s Leadership Development Program.

“We’re thrilled to continue our partnership with the WA Government to bring even more exceptional teachers to the students and school communities who need them most,” TFA CEO Melodie Potts Rosevear said.

“We know teachers have the most powerful impact on students’ learning but some schools struggle to fill vacancies or to find the subject specialists they need. TFA helps ensure that students don’t miss out on the subject experts and inspiring classroom leaders they deserve.”

“Since 2015, we have had such strong and positive feedback from WA principals and school mentors about the ongoing impact of the work our Associates are doing for their students and schools and we are grateful for the opportunity to continue.”

“We thank the Minister for her ongoing support for our work and for the opportunity to partner with WA again as we work towards our vision of an Australia where education gives all children, regardless of background, greater choice for their future.”

TFA’s Leadership Development Program is an employment-based pathway that recruits high achieving university graduates and talented career changers to become fully qualified teachers in schools which serve low socio-economic or challenged communities.

Successful candidates teach in subject areas directly related to their previous studies, while completing a Masters in Teaching (Secondary) (Professional Practice), and become part of a dedicated community committed to tackling education inequity.

Teach For Australia will work around WA next year in regions including the Pilbara, the Kimberley, Goldfields-Esperance, Peel, South West and Mid West as well as the Perth metropolitan area.

As well as subject matter knowledge, the program recruits people with demonstrated leadership qualities and many TFA Associates go on to positions of responsibility and leadership at the schools where they work.

TFA has operated in WA since 2015 and to date 204 Associates have commenced teaching in WA secondary schools.
