Philanthropy spotlight: Boston Consulting Group

Thursday, June 18th, 2026

For more than 15 years, Boston Consulting Group (BCG) has been part of Teach For Australia’s (TFA) story.

The connection runs deep. TFA founder and former CEO Melodie Potts Rosevear was a consultant at BCG. Current TFA Chair Patrick Forth is a former Senior Partner and now Senior Adviser at the firm.

As a Founding Patron since 2008, BCG has played an important role in helping us grow from an ambitious idea into a national organisation. Founding Patrons are recognised for their early and long-term commitment to our mission and the role they have played in building the organisation’s foundations. Over the years, BCG employees have contributed to teacher selection, mentored participants as Leadership Coaches, provided pro bono consulting support and partnered with us through the BCG–TFA Fellowship.

TFA’s success is driven by its ability to reflect the current and evolving demands of the education sector. However, limited resources can make it challenging to access the breadth of insights required. Through BCG’s support, TFA was able to conduct targeted stakeholder engagement interviews, ensuring it had up-to-date, relevant data to inform the development of the curriculum delivered to the next generation of teachers.

BCG conducted interviews with 32 stakeholders across education, government, philanthropy and the broader TFA community, including alumni, donors, board members and education leaders. These conversations provided a comprehensive cross-sector perspective on emerging priorities and challenges, helping ensure TFA remains closely aligned with the needs of the communities and classrooms it serves.

The interviews reinforced the strong reputation of our teachers and alumni. Stakeholders highlighted the importance of attracting and retaining talented teachers, particularly in schools and communities experiencing workforce shortages. They also encouraged us to share more examples that demonstrate the difference teachers make in schools and communities.

Bringing impact to life

One example is Cranbourne West Secondary College in Victoria.

We have placed teachers at the school every year since it opened in 2021. These teachers have helped build school culture, led key learning areas and progressed into leadership positions.

The results have been significant:

  • Reading NAPLAN results increased by 147% between Year 7 and Year 9 in 2025
  • Numeracy NAPLAN results increased by 64% between Year 7 and Year 9 in 2025
  • One TFA teacher progressed into an Assistant Principal role

Principal Rob Duncan said TFA teachers had made ‘an enormous contribution to growing a really positive learning culture within the school.’

Stories like Cranbourne West Secondary College remind us that behind every statistic is a teacher, a school and a community working together to create change.

We’re grateful for BCG’s longstanding partnership and the expertise, including stakeholder engagement, workforce and skills analysis, benchmarking and strategic planning they continue to share with our organisation.

Supporting our work this EOFY

As we approach the end of the financial year, we’d also like to thank the many individuals, foundations and corporate partners who support Teach For Australia.

Their support helps us recruit, develop and support teachers in regional, rural and remote communities across Australia.
