Drawing on organisational data and interviews with Alumni across the country, the report explores how the program attracts talented individuals into teaching, develops them into exemplary educators and school leaders, and supports them to drive change throughout their careers.

The findings show that Teach for Australia is helping respond to growing concern about the strength of Australia’s school leadership pipeline, with our Alumni progressing into leadership roles at significantly faster rates than the broader teaching workforce.

The report also highlights Teach for Australia’s contribution to a more stable education workforce, with 73% of Alumni continuing to teach for at least five additional years after completing the LDP.

Key report findings:

  • TFA’s program has an unmatched leadership dividend: 1 in 3 Alumni hold a leadership role within three years of graduating, rising to over two thirds within five years. The majority of Teach for Australia Alumni continue teaching long-term in the classroom, with 73% continuing to teach for at least five additional years after completing the LDP.
  • Program completion and retention rates exceed traditional ITE pathways, with 71 out of 100 TFA participants commencing the program continuing to teach after 3 years, compared to 41 out of 100 candidates commencing traditional Postgraduate ITEs.
  • Teach For Australia Alumni progress into school leadership at significantly faster rates than the broader teaching workforce.
  • Nearly 30% become leading teachers or join the principal class within five years.
